Should you wash your car today?

Is today a good day to wash your car — and will the rain hold off?

or

The only thing worse than a dirty car is washing it the day before a storm. Whether today is a good wash day is really a question about the next several days of rain risk, not just this afternoon's sky.

This tool looks at the multi-day precipitation forecast for your city and gives a straight answer: wash now, or wait for the dry stretch — and when that stretch starts.

If you're squeezing a wash into a marginal window, morning is the safer bet: pop-up storms skew toward the afternoon and evening in most of the country, especially in summer.

How it works

Washing your car only to have it rained on an hour later is the worst. This forecast looks at today's precipitation probability plus the next 3 days to find the best wash window. Today counts for 40% of the score — if it's raining today, we immediately flag it as a bad day. The remaining 60% weighs the next 3 days (50/30/20) so you can plan a wash that stays clean. Pollen season and tree cover may mean your car gets dirty faster regardless of rain, but rain is the primary timing driver.
